Czech Tennis Players Who Broke Up, Then Won Olympic Gold Together Joke Their Relationship Status Is 'Top Secret'
Czech tennis players Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč won gold in mixed doubles on Friday night, and hugged and kissed each other in celebration
Forget Challengers — one of tennis’s most compelling love stories is playing out at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
When Czech tennis players Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč won gold in mixed doubles on Friday night, they hugged and kissed each other in celebration.
The romantic gestures would make perfect sense, as the pair were a long-time couple — only according to local media, they broke up in July after four years of dating.
After the impressive match, in which they bested China’s Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen, the pair were asked about their relationship status during a press conference, to which Macháč, 23, rolled his eyes, the Associated Press reported.
“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniaková, 28, reportedly said with a laugh. “We like when you are confused.”

Added Macháč, “This is top secret.”
Siniaková confirmed that they had, in fact, broken up, but joked that it was only to focus on bringing home the gold.
"We are such professionals that we broke up precisely so that we could fully concentrate on this medal, we succeeded and we will see what happens after that," she reportedly said.
Meanwhile, Macháč emphasized the importance of winning his new hardware with Siniaková by his side.
“I always like to represent my country. Like [in] the Davis Cup or especially [at] the Olympics. For me, it’s something special. To achieve something like this is... I think my head right now is not getting it,” he told reporters. “I’m just really enjoying. For me it’s special to achieve it with Kate, because it’s something that is not usual."
Later, both athletes shared their special moment on Instagram, with Siniaková writing, “That was unreal 🥇☺️🔥 Thanks everyone for supporting us ❤️ so happy with the result we have achieved 🇨🇿”
