D’Amelio family accused of cheating to win trivia game

YouTube personality MrBeast, known for giving away large sums of money to his fans, hosted his second annual Creator Games on Oct. 17.

The special event pitted 24 popular influencers, such as Addison Rae and Ninja, against each other to crown the “smartest creator in the world” — and toss a little cash to their fans in the process.

The final matchup saw Tiktokers Charli and Dixie D’Amelio facing off against comic book artist and YouTuber ZHC. The entire D’Amelio family — including the parents — participated up to the final round, in which Dixie took down ZHC in a trivia competition to win $300,000 in prize money for their fans.

The D’Amelio family said they plan to donate the money to “people who really need it,” but they were immediately met with controversy.

As soon as the competition ended, commenters began accusing the D’Amelios of cheating since they brought their parents along without announcing their plan to do that in the official lineup. They were also accused of using their phones during the trivia round.

“The fact that the D’Amelios cheated is disgusting,” one user wrote.

“I’m annoyed,” another said.

Frustrated fans also flooded the comments sections of Charli’s TIkTok following the event.

MrBeast responded to the backlash on Twitter.

“I see some people mad that I let multiple people compete on a single team in the trivia tournament,” he wrote. “Honestly, the tournament was just for fun and to bring the community together and I’d appreciate if you were to get mad at anyone, get mad at me. It was my decision lol.”

The D’Amelios have not yet responded to the backlash, and it’s not clear if they will since they aren’t claiming the prize money for themselves.
