The Indonesian startup will use the fund to launch new initiatives with Blackberry Messenger

Indonesian O2O daily deals platform Lakupon announced on Wednesday that it has received a S$1 million (US$742,000) investment from Singapore-based New Wealth Capital.

The round was led by New Wealth Capital Managing Partner James Tan and Partners Sean Lim.

Lakupon itself is a business line of Emtek Group’s digital services company Kreatif Media Karya (KMK). In June, Emtek group announced that it has acquired the brand, IP and technology licensing rights of messaging app Blackberry Messenger (BBM).

Therefore, it is no surprise that Lakupon plans to use the funding to sell their coupon vouchers through the BBM platform.

“With more than 60 million users in Indonesia, BBM will be focussed on becoming Lakupon’s O2O messenger platform,” according to Lakupon Founder Leonard K. Kwee in a press statement.

The startup is also set to launch other new initiatives with BBM, which will be announced later in the future.
