From Harper's BAZAAR

Daisy Edgar-Jones has been cast for the lead role in the screen adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing.

Edgar Jones, who shot to fame after starring in the hit series Normal People, will play the main character of Kya.

The novel, which is set in North Carolina, tells two stories: one where Kya (Edgar-Jones) is abandoned by her family and is left alone with her abusive father.

The second follows Kya after she has become an established author, being accused of the murder of her former boyfriend Chase Andrews, who previously tried to rape her.

Where the Crawdads Sing, written by Delia Owens, topped the New York Times’ best-sellers list for 32 weeks in 2019 and 2020 and sold around 8-9 million copies worldwide.

Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are producing the upcoming adaptation via their company Hello Sunshine, for Sony Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking previously about the book, Witherspoon said: "There is so much to her story: romance, mystery, and a murder… and it takes place in the breathtaking backdrop of the South. I didn’t want this story to end!"
