'Dancing With the Stars' Fans Call for Host Tyra Banks to Be Sent Home After Major Elimination Snafu

  • Dancing With the Stars host Tyra Banks had a mix-up during Monday night’s elimination.

  • The America's Next Top Model creator accidentally said Monica Aldama and Val Chmerkovskiy were safe from elimination when they weren’t.

  • DWTS fans didn’t hold back their thoughts on Twitter about the mistake made on live TV.

Dancing With the Stars ended with a bang last night.

After Cheer coach Monica Aldama performed an energetic samba with pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy and earned her highest score of the season thus far, host Tyra Banks declared that she was safe from elimination — but that wasn't the case. In an unexpected turn of events, Tyra had to call them back out on to the dance floor because despite their impressive moves, they had actually landed in the bottom two alongside actress Anne Heche and pro dancer Keo Motsepe.

"Please come back. Please have Monica come back," Tyra said on the ABC competition show. "There's been an error in our control room, but we're making it happen. This is live TV, right? This is the craziness of live TV."

In the end, Monica was officially declared safe, and Anne was eliminated, but the night was far from over.

Shortly after the show wrapped up, Tyra hopped on Instagram Stories from backstage to explain that there had been a technical difficulty with the cards she was reading. She also gave a shout-out to her DWTS team for “powering through.”

“It’s really unfortunate that certain people thought that they were safe, and they weren’t, and they had to get called back and it’s a mess,” she said. “But it’s my job as the host to keep the show going and to try to figure out, handle what’s going on behind the scenes … We’re all a team and we got through it together and can’t wait to see you guys next week and let’s hope that there’s no technical difficulties like there were this week because oh my gosh.”

The 46-year-old former model then shared words on Twitter about the incident.

“Wowzers. Live TV. Wrong name on cards,” Tyra wrote. “So challenging to deal with moments like these. But we power through.”

DWTS fans immediately took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on how week four ended, and they didn’t hold back.

“Tyra is the worst. Did she even audition?! ‘It’s live TV’..nah Tyra it’s you being a bad host. Poor Monica! I’m glad she is safe!” one person wrote. “Send Tyra home,” another added. “Maybe if Tyra didn't talk so much, she wouldn't have to RUSH the elimination,” a different fan said. “Tyra Banks has single handedly ruined the #DWTS experience,” a follower commented.

But others showed their support for Tyra, who recently replaced former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

“You did an awesome job mopping up the mess, powering through and meeting the challenge. You got this Tyra 👏👏 👌,” someone tweeted. “It’s ok Tyra we all make mistakes. We still love you,” another said. “Not your fault @tyrabanks someone gave you the wrong information ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” a fan wrote.

Regardless of the differing opinions, Tyra always keeps it real, even if it means making a mistake or two.

“Every host messes up. It’s just normal. It’s live TV. If it wasn’t live, there would be no mess-ups,” Tyra told U.S. Weekly last month. “Even on America’s Next Top Model, I would mess up and tell my editors to leave it in. That’s what makes things human.”
