After ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes shocked the world by knocking out #1-ranked contender Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, many fans expected #2-ranked Danny “The King” Kingad to push for the next shot at the titleholder.
However, Kingad is turning his attention to the man the Brazilian just beat – Johnson.
The Filipino recently called out the American mixed martial arts legend in an Instagram post.
“It’s been close to two years since we last two fought, and a lot has already happened in our own careers. I’m more than ready to take on DJ again,” Kingad said.
Kingad is currently 14-2 as a mixed martial artist, with the only two losses of his career coming at the hands of Moraes and Johnson.
He faced Johnson, a 12-time Mixed Martial Arts World Champion, during October 2019 in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Final at ONE: CENTURY PART 1.
Kingad did well early on, but Johnson’s experience ultimately won him the finale and a shot at Moraes for the flyweight strap. Johnson then lost that bout in April of this year after Kingad defeated “The Hunter” Xie Wei just a few months earlier.
With Kingad coming off a win and Johnson coming off a loss, it could be the perfect time for them to go head-to-head and truly determine the top-ranked contender.
If the rematch happens, expect Kingad to be a completely different man this time around.
“I will definitely be back stronger,” he said.
