DAP’s Nga leaves Taiping for Teluk Intan seat

IPOH, April 16 — Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming has been announced as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat.

His candidacy was confirmed by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng during a rally at the Teluk Intan DAP community centre tonight.

The announcement puts an end to speculation as to where Nga, who is the incumbent Taiping MP, will contest in GE14.

The two-term federal lawmaker, who is a lawyer by training, will face off with Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, who is also plantation industries and commodities minister.

Mah won the seat during a by-election in 2014 following the death of DAP’s Seah Leong Peng, who had won it with a 7,313 majority in a three-cornered fight during the 13th general election.

Earlier, before announcing Nga’s candidacy, Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, spoke to the crowd for about an hour.

He promised to make Nga a Cabinet minister if PH forms the federal government after the May 9 general elections.

“Let him do more for the people of Teluk Intan,” Lim said.
