DAVAO — Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is dismayed by the latest attack of the New People’s Army in Davao City wherein a civilian was seriously injured in the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED). The victim, Larry Buenafe is still in a coma until now.

For this, the vice mayor condemned the NPA for the wounding of a civilian and for the group’s continuous extortion of some companies.

“Are you not tired of fighting? We now have a government under the Duterte Administration that’s offering peace and yet you continue waging war,” he said.

The vice mayor stressed that the Davao City Council supports any measures initiated by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to prevent the recurrence of NPA’s attack and the burning of Lapanday Foods Plants.

Vice Mayor Duterte said the city government is open to a dialogue with the rebel group to attain peace.

“Despite what happened, we are not closing our doors for genuine peace that would benefit each and every Filipino,” he added.

A city councilor will push for the creation of a local peace panel in Davao City.

“To negotiate with local armed groups especially the MDF-NPA in the city order,” Davao City councilor Jimmy Dureza said.  — Marisol Montaño | UNTV News & Rescue
