David Walliams has co-written a new festive special for Sky, taking a look at the aftermath of classic tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

Happy to work on both sides of the camera, the Britain's Got Talent judge will also feature in the main cast alongside Sheridan Smith (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) and Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners).

He'll play The Giant, while Smith is "the self-proclaimed greatest giant-killer in the village" The Woman with No Name, and Harrison appears as Dodgy Dave – "a shifty market stall trader who sold Jack the magic beans."

Titled Jack and the Beanstalk: After Ever After, this'll be Walliams' fourth consecutive Christmas providing entertainment for Sky One, following Cinderella: After Ever After, The Queen and I and Ratburger.

"I often wondered what happened to Jack after ever after, so I decided to write a sequel because I can't stop writing books!" he commented.

"This is a star-studded festive treat – a comedy sequel to one of the best loved English fairytales. I am delighted to be playing The Giant, alongside some of the biggest names in British TV."

Smith added: "This is a brilliantly funny piece and I'm so excited to be working with David again. My part 'The Woman with No Name', is a really fun part and like every baddie, she gets her comeuppance in the end!

"After the year we've had it's the perfect story for Christmas that the whole family can enjoy together."

Filming is scheduled to kick off next month.
