Debris spotted off Tho Chu island not part of MH370, says DCA – Bernama
The debris spotted by a Singapore search team about 100km south-southwest of Vietnam's Tho Chu island, was not from the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, said the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman (pic).
He said that although oil slicks were found but there has been no confirmation yet.
"There was oil spill found but we are in the verification process now as to whether the oil spill came from the missing aircraft. However, we have not received a report yet," he said during the press conference in Sepang today.
Early today, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) found a large oil slick about 100 nautical miles from Tok Bali, Kelantan.
Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew, went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing about an hour after taking off from KLIA at 12.41am Saturday.
Azharuddin said, at the moment the rescue team, which involved 40 ships and 34 aircrafts from nine countries, has not found any concrete sign that could lead to the missing plane although the search and rescue operation has entered the second day. – Bernama, March 9, 2014.
