LANGKAWI: Defence Ministers from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines will hold a trilateral meeting in Sabah next month to discuss maritime security in the Sulu sea.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the meeting’s main focus will be to determine initiatives that could be taken to further strengthen security in the territory, which also covers Sabah waters.
“The meeting will take place in about three weeks’ time. (We will touch on) cooperation between the three nations, joint-patrols, ‘eyes in the sky’, and others.
“I have (also) been given the mandate by the Prime Minister to adopt new partnerships in order to enhance security in the region,” he said.
Hishammuddin was speaking to reporters after attending the National Transformation (TN50) dialogue with youths at Resorts World Langkawi here today, which discussed the future of defence in Malaysia.
More than 600 youths participated in the dialogue.
