Denice Zamboanga Fires Back At Meng Bo: ‘We Will See Each Other In The Circle, And The Talking Will Be Over’

ONE Championship women’s mixed martial arts atomweight division is getting a whole lot more interesting.

Last month, after her victory at ONE: UNBREAKABLE, #2-ranked contender Meng Bo went on record to say that #1 contender Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga has nothing more than a strong punch. Meng added that she would finish the Filipina within two rounds if they meet in the Circle.

Zamboanga, needless to say, didn’t take those words lightly.

“Meng Bo likes to talk a lot. But talking doesn’t win you fights. She’s just asking to be humbled,” she said.

“Sooner or later, we will see each other in the Circle, and the talking will be over.”

“The Menace” may be on to something. After all, the two stars have been tearing up the atomweight division since joining ONE Championship in 2019.

Zamboanga has defeated Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan, Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, and Watsapinya “Dream Girl” Kaewkhong.

For her part, Meng has racked up wins over Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin, Priscilla Hertati “Thathie” Lumban Gaol, and most recently, Samara “Marituba” Santos.

Despite the Chinese athlete’s string of success, “The Menace” doesn’t believe Meng has the skills to win a head-to-head matchup.

“It’s cute that she thinks she can knock me out in two rounds. I’d like to see her try. Let’s see what happens,” Zamboanga said.

Both of these competitors are hoping for a shot at ONE Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee. Zamboanga was actually granted that opportunity after defeating Yamaguchi, but COVID-19 derailed the fight.

Lee then announced her pregnancy and took an extended hiatus from competition.

With the titleholder on the sidelines, it would make sense for the #1- and #2-ranked contenders to battle for the World Title shot – and settle their growing grudge once and for all.

That sounds just fine to Zamboanga, who would prefer to make the rest of her statement inside the ring.

“You’ll just have to wait until we are together in the Circle. I don’t really like to talk much unless provoked,” she said.

“I prefer to do my talking in the fight. I think it’s going to be a surprise for everyone. I just want to get back in there and compete.”

In the meantime, download the ONE Super App to catch ONE: FISTS OF FURY on 26 February from Singapore, where reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Ilias Ennahachi will defend his strap against #2-ranked contender “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9.
