DHL breaks ground for regional centre in Tampines

Global logistics company DHL broke ground today for its newest warehouse facility, DHL Supply Chain's Advanced Regional Centre (pictured), at Singapore's Tampines LogisPark.

The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr Teo Ser Luck.

The 90,000 sq m integrated build-to-suit warehouse, which will occupy the largest land parcel of 60,000 sq m in Tampines LogisPark, boasts an investment of more than S$160 million or S$40 million from DHL and over S$120 million from appointed developer Cache Logistic Trust.

Comprising two-warehouse blocks catering to sectors such as Aerospace, Healthcare, and Technology, the Advanced Regional Centre will offer services including real estate optimization and multi-user automation. The facility also comes with an office block.

DHL Supply Chain Singapore's Managing Director Jason Goh, said the facility "will enable DHL's regional customers in the aerospace, healthcare and technology sectors to benefit from the advanced technology and automation solutions."

The facility will also house Asia Pacific Solutions & Innovation Centre (ASIC), a joint development with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). The facility will be designed for complex multi-sector and multi-user operations, showcasing automation solutions, such as an automated storage and order picking system.

DHL Supply Chain's Advanced Regional Centre is expected to be completed by 2H2015.

Steve Walker, CIO at DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific Middle East and Africa (APMEA), said: "The completion [of this facility] will be just in time for us to further support our customers to fully leverage the opportunities in this booming region across key industries such as aerospace, healthcare and technology. It will exemplify how the logistics industry in Singapore can achieve operational excellence and productivity gains through innovation.

Notably, DHL APMEA regional offices and its Singapore country office will then be re-located to the premises.
