Did Lauren Sánchez Break White House Protocol in $2,300 Skin-Baring Gown at State Dinner?
Sánchez drew attention in the sheer, figure-hugging gown by Rasario
Lauren Sánchez chose a gown that bucked tradition for White House state dinners.
The 54-year-old journalist and philanthropist stepped out with fiancé Jeff Bezos, 60, for a state dinner honoring Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko. For the affair on Wednesday, April 10, Sánchez wore a revealing red corset gown that stood out among the conservatively dressed crowd. (The White House did not respond to a request for comment on dress codes but typical state dinner dress code is black tie.)
The $2,300 Rasario dress features an off-the-shoulder neckline and structured corset bodice with sheer lace at the abdomen.
Sánchez accessorized the figure-hugging ensemble with metallic open-toe heels, a silver clutch purse and diamond earrings.
Her dark, shoulder-length hair was styled straight and sleek and she sported a smoky eye and glossy nude lip.
On Instagram Stories, Sánchez shared a behind-the-scenes photo of her glam process for the event, which was hosted by President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden.
“Can’t wait to show you the final look,” she wrote over a photo of her seated in a chair getting her hair and makeup done.
She also shared some photos from the evening on her Instagram carousel. In the post, Sánchez poses for the camera on a brick walkway surrounded by lush greenery and purple flowers. The final photo in the carousel shows the journalist digging into a slice of pizza post-event.
“How it started …how it ended,” she captioned the post. “Such a beautiful evening in DC. Can’t wait to show you more tomorrow.”

The event, which was themed "a celebration of spring” according to CBS News, featured an East-West menu and was attended by a slew of other stars including Apple CEO Tim Cook and VP Lisa Jackson and actor Robert De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
Sánchez’s racy red gown is a departure from the traditional attire typically seen at state dinners — but the look was in line with her usual style. She and Bezos, who have been together for more than four years and got engaged last May, attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2024, where Sánchez also opted for red. She stunned in a sheer, low-cut Lever Couture gown with a ruffled sheer train and voluminous sleeves.
