The Original Clutch from Alexander McQueen VS. Snooki's Looky-Likey Design

Another day, another looky-likey fashion battle. Just yesterday, Grazia towers was a-buzz with the news that Chanel would not be producing the crystal–encrusted cuffs from their AW12 catwalk show, after comparisons to jewellery designer Pamela Love’s (eerily similar) work whipped everyone up into a frenzy. And today, news of another homage-gone-too-far has reached our ears… and from the unlikeliest source! Jersey Shore’s Snooki has designed a line of handbags, and her ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ clutch does more than just reference this fab knuckle-duster clutch, which made its first appearance in the Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall Autumn Winter 2009 collection. The knuckle clasp is almost identical to the original, embellished with skulls and crystals. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but somehow we doubt that the famous fashion house will have anything good to say about Snooki’s copy-cat clutch, available to buy on her website, Snooki Shop, alongside a confusing array of fake eyelashes and an oversized stuffed animal called a ‘Crocodilly’ (your guess is as good as ours).

24-year-old Snooki (Nicole Polizzi) shot to, ermmm, fame, on the MTV reality show, and has since made headlines with her in-your-face red carpet style, favouring fake tan, huge hair, and teeny-tiny dresses. We watched the show once, in the name of research of course, and it seemed to consist mainly of shouting and very suspect behaviour on dimly-lit dance floors; we nearly spit out our cocoa in shock. Probably not something the brand will want to be associated with, especially when you consider that Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen dress, designed by the brilliant Sarah Burton, to walk down the aisle and marry her Prince.

But while Snooki is often in the press, it’s more for her ker-razy behaviour than for her entrepreneurial savvy, so we doubt she’ll be giving the folks at Alexander McQueen a run for their money anytime soon. And with a baby on the way, and filming about to start on her Jersey Shore spin-off show, it seems like Snooki might have to put her fashion-line on hold for now. Lucky for us, we’ll still be able to get our real-deal fashion fix from McQueen!

The Lotus Europa was one of the stranger sports cars of the '70s, but still managed to corner like a sheepdog thanks to its low weight and fiberglass body. This example caught by Dave Lindsay is fairly typical of the nicer early '70s Type 62 Europas Lotus exported to the United States; by today's standards they're odd, underpowered and unreliable — which means they have a fervent fan base.

Inside MotoGP, elbow on asphalt at 210 mph

In MotoGP, a most strange sport, compact, highly fit men, most of them Spanish, Italian, Japanese, or Australian, maneuver 350-lb., multimillion-dollar motorcycles around Formula One tracks at 220 mph while wearing computerized suits that inflate when they fall off at speed. It feels as though you’re watching Tron live, and the crashes are just as spectacular. Driving these things requires a lot of nerve, as well as generous levels of Euro-style machismo. The riders of MotoGP can’t walk down the street in Barcelona or Milan without being followed by screaming fans. They’re like some sort of unholy marriage between Daft Punk and Apollo astronauts. In the United States, they’re just guys walking down the street.

Armed pirates boarded a Singapore-managed oil tanker in the Strait of Malacca, kidnapping three Indonesian crew and stealing some of the vessel's shipment of diesel fuel, the International Maritime Bureau said Wednesday. The attack occurred early Tuesday off Malaysia's west coast, said Noel Choong, head of IMB's Kuala Lumpur-based piracy reporting centre. The diesel oil tanker was believed to be en route to Myanmar. "IMB is aware of the attack on the Singapore-managed ship in the Malacca Straits.

He called the emergency 119 number which put him through to the fire service, which in turn forwarded him to the coastguard two minutes later. That was followed by about 20 other calls from children on board the ship to the emergency number, a fire service officer told Reuters.
