SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) _ Discovery Communications Inc. (DISCA) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $304 million.
The Silver Spring, Maryland-based company said it had profit of 52 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 48 cents per share.
The operator of cable TV channels such as TLC and Animal Planet posted revenue of $1.67 billion in the period, meeting Street forecasts.
For the year, the company reported profit of $1.19 billion, or $1.96 per share. Revenue was reported as $6.5 billion.
Discovery shares have increased roughly 6 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 4 percent. The stock has risen 19 percent in the last 12 months.
