We tested this DIY coffee eye mask to see if it can help brighten dark circles and soothe puffiness

Dark circles and eye puffiness are fairly common for lots of reasons. They can occur with age, are more common in people with darker skin tones and can just be the result of genetics. Some people may not be able to permanently get rid of their dark circles, but there are some temporary fixes. And if you’re struggling to love your dark circles, keep in mind that the grass is always greener — some people actually use makeup to artificially create the effect.

“The main ingredient is actually the caffeine that’s in the coffee,” Phoebe says. “Caffeine has a bunch of anti-inflammatory properties that help narrow the blood vessels and stimulate blood circulation around your eyes.”

Honey is also an anti-inflammatory that can soothe the under-eye area.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon coffee grounds

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 to 2 tablespoons water

  • Cotton rounds

Steps:

1. Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Be sure not to go overboard with the water to prevent the mixture from getting too thin and watery.

2. Next, cut a cotton round in half to create two half-moon crescents and soak the cotton pads in the mixture.

3. Place the half-moons on your under-eye area and let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes. If you find the cotton rounds slipping, you can also just pat the mixture onto your under-eye area.

“The honey actually made my face feel great, so that’s great,” Phoebe says. “This is something that you can implement into your daily routine if you struggle with dark circles and want to make improvements over time. I will definitely be doing this again. It was so easy.”
