Doctors is to return to filming following its coronavirus hiatus.

The BBC soap has confirmed it has resumed filming on Monday, August 10, following a four month hiatus caused by the pandemic — with the exception of a special coronavirus lockdown episode, which aired in early June and was shot exclusively on Zoom via the mobile phones of the cast.

"It's been a long process of preparing the set, the crew and actors, to make sure we are working in the safest environment possible," said Doctors executive producer, Mike Hobson.

"We have been chomping at the bit to get back filming, especially as the audience loved our special Zoom episode."

"We are looking forward to picking up where we left off, and continuing to create great storylines full of humour, while raising awareness of serious issues, and of course, creating a bit of drama!"

Doctors will pick up where it left off, with the resolution of midwife Ruhma's storyline, following her kiss with a patient's husband.

Its return to filming follows fellow BBC soaps EastEnders and Holby City resuming production.

The BBC has confirmed Doctors will be back on screens later this year.

Social distancing rules in accordance with current government guidelines are to also be upheld.

Doctors airs on BBC One. It will return to screens later this year.
