Dodgers end their 32-year World Series drought

Fans and fireworks erupted after the Los Angeles Dodgers captured a World Series Championship on Tuesday (October 27) night for the first time in over three decades.

"I wanna tear up! Do you not see everyone behind me right here?"

The Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in Game 6 of the Series, earning their seventh championship title in franchise history.

And shortstop Corey Seager was named the Most Valuable Player of the series.

Third baseman Justin Turner was pulled during the game as Major League Baseball later announced he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Turner later tweeted, "Can't believe I couldn't be out there to celebrate with my guys. So proud of this team and unbelievably happy for the city of LA."

ESPN reported that the players would undergo rapid COVID-19 tests when they returned to their hotel.

The victory was also sweet relief for the long-suffering Dodgers organization as well as Major League Baseball.

The league's season once appeared doomed, when the pandemic cancelled Spring Training in mid-March and delayed Opening Day by months.

The Dodgers' most recent World Series title came in 1988, when they beat the Oakland Athletics in five games.
