SINGAPORE — A dog was rescued from a fire at a condominium unit in Sengkang on Monday (6 June), while 10 people from the affected block were evacuated.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said in a Facebook post on Monday that it had responded to a fire alert at about 5.55pm on Monday at The Quartz, a condominium complex along Compassvale Bow in Sengkang.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw black smoke emitting from a 15th-floor unit at Block 53 of the complex.

"Firefighters from Sengkang Fire Station donned breathing apparatus sets and conducted forcible entry to gain access into the unit. No one was in the unit," SCDF said in the Facebook post.

"The fire, which involved the contents of kitchen, was extinguished using a water jet."

A dog was found in the living room of the unit, and it was rescued and handed back to the owner.

About 10 people from the affected block were evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.

SCDF said the fire was largely confined to the kitchen, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
