DOH studies use of Chinese traditional medicine as treatment for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) is considering studying the use of Chinese traditional medicine in the hopes of finding a cure for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, a team of 12 Chinese medical experts arrived in the country on Sunday (April 5).

They are on a mission which include sharing with local hospitals and experts China’s experience in the testing, treatment, prevention and control of COVID-19.

They specialize in various areas, including respiratory, intensive care, hospital infection control, nursing, integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and microbiological testing.

“Kagaya po ng ibang complementary medicine, tinitingan po ng ating mga eksperto kung ano ang maaaring maging gamit ng traditional Chinese medicine laban sa COVID-19 (Similar to other complementary medicine, our experts are looking into possibilities of using traditional Chinese medicine to fight COVID-19),” Duque explained.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said the Chinese team of experts were sent at the request of the Philippine government.

Most of the team members were involved in the fight against COVID-19 in Hubei Province, the epicenter of COVID-19.
