DOJ to investigate Lascañas’ Singapore trip

UNTV News and Rescue

MANILA, Philippines The Deparment of Justice (DOJ) is considering seeking a probe into who funded the Singapore trip of retired SPO3 Arturo Lascañas.

This is after Senator Panfilo Lascon raised the question who helped the retired cop to exit the country.

“We have to know also who is funding this trip. He is going to Singapore because if someone is backing him up, like in Matobato’s case, that in itself is a criminal act,” Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said.

Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre however, admitted that the Bureau of Immigration cannot stop Lascañas from leaving the country.

Secretary Aguirre clarified there is no hold departure order issued against Lascañas. He is not included in the lookout bulletin.

Aguirre believes, it is not true that Lascañas is receiving death threats that’s why he needed to leave the country.

“Ang ginagawa nila ng dahilan ay someone is out to kill him, cover up nalang iyon pero wala pa naman nangyayari sa kanya and nobody is attempting to do him in… Cases, these are being investigated and that what is most probably he is afraid of that he will be found guilty of those persons he killed,” he said.  (He reasons that someone is out to kill him. That is just a cover up, nothing happened to him and nobody is attempting to do him in. Cases, these are being investigated and that what is most probably he is afraid of that he will be found guilty of those persons he killed.)

In a statement, Lascañas said that more than anyone else, Senator Panfilo Lacson, of all people should understand his situation, given that  the senator also once fled the country for safety.

Lascañas said, like the case of Lacson before, many people also believe him and are helping him.

Lascañas is a self-confessed hitman who made a public confession about the Davao Death Squad and the alleged orders of President Duterte to kill criminals in Davao City when he was still mayor.  —  Joyce Balancio | UNTV News & Rescue
