Domestic Trade personnel claims trial to RM200 corruption charge

ALOR STAR: A Kubang Pasu Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's assistant enforcement officer today claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a corruption charge three years ago.

Norzaishafril Shaffie, 37, was charged with receiving RM200 from Zafizah Zakaria, 40, at a fuel storage facility at Kampung Remia Manis in Padang Terap in 2014.

He was charged with receiving the money from Zafizah, whom he knew had a connection with his official duty, without anything in return, about 4.32pm on Sept 24, 2014.

The offence is punishable under Section 165 of the Penal Code which carries up to two years' jail or fine, or both, upon conviction.

Norzaishafril, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower bail as he has limited savings and needed to support his handicap child's medical expenses.

Judge Zanor Zanor Rashid Hussain set bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed April 27 for mention.

The case was taken to court by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar.
