Donald Glover cancels Childish Gambino tour dates through 2024, says he needs surgery and 'time out to heal'

"I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform," the multihyphenate performer said. "Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support."

Donald Glover has canceled the remainder of his Childish Gambino tour dates for the year.

The musician and multihyphenate, who had previously postponed the North American leg of the tour citing "physical health" concerns, announced the complete cancellation of all forthcoming 2024 shows on social media Friday.

"We have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates," he wrote, noting that ticket holders can receive refunds at point of purchase.

Representatives for Glover didn't immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for further comment.

Following the cancellation of his Uncasville, Conn., show citing technical difficulties on Aug. 24, Glover made his first health-related postponement on Sept. 8 in Houston.

"After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent," he wrote in Friday's announcement post, adding that after he was evaluated, "It became clear i would not perform that night."

Unfortunately, the undisclosed health issue he experienced in Houston was only the beginning. "After more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked," Glover wrote. He had previously announced the postponement of the 15 remaining North American shows on Sept. 9, though he didn't mention European concerts in that update, and suggested that those dates might be rescheduled rather than outright canceled.

Glover noted that he has a medical procedure on the books as well. "As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal," he wrote. "My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously."

The musician concluded his remarks with gratitude. "I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform.," he said. "Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support."

Glover, who has performed under his Childish Gambino moniker since 2008, embarked on The New World Tour in support of his new album, Bando Stone & the New World, on Aug. 11. He ultimately played 18 shows before withdrawing for health concerns. Glover's website does still list seven shows scheduled for early 2025, so it appears the Childish Gambino world tour has not yet been completely canceled.

In addition to launching Bando Stone as an album, Glover has planned to release an IMAX film accompanying the record on an undisclosed date in 2024. He also recently created and starred in Prime Video's Mr. and Mrs. Smith series, and will reprise the voice role of Simba in  Barry Jenkins' Mufasa: The Lion King, which hits theaters in December.
