Donald Trump avoids saying whether he wants Ukraine to win war against Russia

Donald Trump avoided answering whether he wants Ukraine to win the war against Russia during the first presidential debate on Tuesday evening.

After being questioned by ABC’s David Muir, the presidential candidate sidestepped the question, simply saying: “I want the war to stop, I want to save lives that are being uselessly... people are being killed by the millions.

"It's so much worse than the numbers that you are getting which are fake numbers," he claimed, despite his suggested death toll not being confirmed by any country or international organisation.

Trump went on to say that he would "get the war settled" before even becoming president.

"When I'm president-elect, what I'll do is I'll speak to one, I'll speak to the other, I'll get them together," he added.
