'Don't Be Like This': Man Narrowly Escapes Being Hit by Train in London

A British railway company posted a video on October 7 showing a pedestrian forcing his way through a railroad crossing after the gates had lowered and barely making it across the tracks before a train barreled through.

Network Rail, the owner and infrastructure manager of most of the railway network in Great Britain, shared the footage of the brush with death, which happened in the London neighborhood of Brimsdown on May 5.

Network Rail wrote, “Don’t be like this. This man risked his life, and the lives of others at Brimsdown level crossing in London. Never take a chance on a level crossing and always use it correctly.”

According to Eurostat, as of 2018 there were 1,666 significant railway accidents in the EU, with 853 deaths and 748 seriously injured. Fifty-six percent of those deaths involved unauthorized persons on the tracks, and 27 percent occurred at level crossings. Credit: Network Rail via Storyful
