Dota 2 anime Dragon's Blood coming to Netflix in March

Popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game Dota 2 will be getting its own anime series, titled DOTA: Dragon's Blood, which will premiere on Netflix on 25 March, publisher Valve revealed on Wednesday (17 February).

Based on the announcement trailer, the series will follow the story of popular Dota 2 hero Davion the Dragon Knight, most known for his ability to transform from an armour-clad human to a ferocious fire-breathing dragon.

According to his in-game lore, Davion was a renowned dragon-slayer who earned his powers when he granted the Eldwurm Slyrak's dying wish of meeting his end in battle.

Davion will also be joined in his quest by another popular Dota 2 hero, Mirana the Priestess of the Moon, as well as other characters from the Dota universe.

The series' description on Netflix says that both Dragon Knight and Mirana will face both "demons and gods" in their journey throughout the series.

Many others from Dota 2's 120-strong roster of heroes are also expected to make an appearance, as fans of the game can "discover heroes both old and new as Dota 2 comes to life like never before" as an anime series.

"We're excited to announce a brand-new anime series exploring the Dota universe like never before. As fellow fans of Dota and its passionate global community, we look forward to sharing this new adventure with you when it premieres on Netflix March 25," Valve said in a statement on the official Dota 2 Twitter account.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood will run eight episodes. The main trailer for the series will also be released on 2 March.

In collaboration with Valve, the series is being produced by Ashley Edward Miller, known for his work in X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Black Sails, and is animated by Studio MIR, the studio behind Avatar: The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
