DPM exhorts Sabah Umno, BN, to ensure continuation of BN-led gov't

KINABATANGAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) members to work hard to defend seats and increase the coalition’s majority status in the state in the next general election (GE14).

Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said all members and supporters must brace themselves for political trials and tribulations, as there are certain quarters that are mocking and putting up obstacles for the BN-led government.

"Don't ever ridicule BN and Umno. We have no bigger agenda other than defending the rakyat.

"Our organisation must be strengthened, with good ties maintained between the state and national leaders. Therefore, grassroots support must be empowered to ensure the continuity of BN government leadership," he added.

Zahid said this when launching the Perdana Seranta Felcra Berhad programme at the district's market square, here.

Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Felcra Berhad chairman cum Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.

Addressing thousands of Kinabatangan folk, Zahid stressed that Sabah and Kinabatangan are lucky to be under the leadership of Musa and Bung Moktar.

"Bung (Moktar) is among the best Members of Parliament, and… the Chief Minister knows this too.

"I believe (Bung Moktar) will deliver and excel in bringing progress to the people here. (You, the people) have the responsibility to ensure that this happens by rendering your support," he said.

Zahid also emphasised that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is committed to bringing progress to rural areas, while implementing mega projects in the urban centres of Sabah.

To the crowd’s delight, he announced that Kinabatangan and Libaran will each have 120 Rumah Bina Negara units built under the Felcra Berhad project.

"Felcra, a government-linked company, is an organisation which helps the rakyat – thus, (it must help fulfil) the people's (needs)," he said.

Zahid later witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Felcra Berhad and the Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) to develop the Rumah Bina Negara project in Sabah; and an MoU between Felcra International Venture, PRG Holdings Berhad and the Overseas Investment Union of Investment Association of China to promote halal tuna and sardine products in the Chinese market.

The Deputy Prime Minister also launched Kinabatangan’s voting centre, P.187.
