KINABATANGAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi visited the district police headquarters here to attend a gathering for police personnel and their families this afternoon.

Zahid, who was in Semporna this morning, was accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Also present were Kinabatangan police chief Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat, Felcra Berhad chairman cum Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, and Kinabatangan Perkep chairman Dr Latifah Othman, among others.

During his visit, Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said the government will continue to assist in improving the district police headquarters’ facilities.

“I've been informed that there are dilapidated buildings. (But) the Kinabatangan police headquarters is included in the 11th Malaysian Plan, and I will ensure that upgrading works for this contingent will be accelerated.

“So, I hope to return for a ground-breaking ceremony before our big day... not Hari Raya, but the ‘other’ Raya,” he said jokingly, in reference to the upcoming general election.

Zahid also expressed confidence in the leadership of Bung Mokhtar in providing excellent services to his constituency.

“As (Bung’s) good friend, I will definitely assist in developing the (Kinabatangan) area, which will also help in reducing the crime index in the district,” he added.

During the event, Zahid inspected the guard of honour, and handed over RM20,000 in contributions to the Kinabatangan Police Family Association (Perkep).

He is next slated to attend a Felcra programme at a nearby market square.

Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, is also scheduled to launch the party’s and Barisan Nasional’s election machinery at the same venue.
