DPM in Sandakan as part of one-day working visit to state

SANDAKAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi began his one-day working visit to Sabah this morning.

Soon after arrival, the Umno vice-president met with local Umno leaders and members in a closed-door event at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel.

He spent almost an hour at the discussion, during which he delivered his message to party members before leaving the venue at noon.

Zahid was accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Batu Sapi Umno chief Datuk Samsudin Yahya, when met, said the meeting with Zahid was to focus on the party's preparations in facing the next general election, among others.

"The meeting involved three Umno branches, namely Semporna, Batu Sapi and Sandakan. The Deputy Prime Minister advised all leaders and members to continue going down to the ground and solve the people's problems.

"We, in Batu Sapi, are ready and often conduct meetings with the people. We have moved our machineries and identified our voters. We are just waiting for further instructions (from the top leader).

"We also talked about instilling a sense of camaraderie, and ensuring that there will be no misunderstanding with our friends from other BN component parties," Samsudin said.

Zahid is slated to visit Tawau to launch the Jalinan Kaseh carnival at 2.30pm.

The carnival is organised by Kalabakan Umno division's Training and Research bureau at the Tawau municipal field.
