KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he would welcome the addition of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz into Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Rafidah, a former Umno veteran, was formerly International Trade and Industries Minister during Dr Mahathir’s first tenure as prime minister.
“We welcome her, she have been working with us for a long time, ” said Dr Mahathir who is also PPBM chairman.
Asked if Rafidah will be given a post in PPBM, Dr Mahathir merely confirmed that she will be a member.
“I don’t know about a post, but she will be a member.”
The prime minister was speaking to reporters after presenting his keynote address at the World Chinese Economic Forum, at the Palace of Golden Horses.
Rafidah, at a media conference on Thursday, had voiced her intention to join PPBM.
Dr Mahathir had previously noted that he was open to the idea of former Umno members joining PPBM, provided they were sincere in their efforts to help the party.
Among the most prominent ex-Umno personalities to join PPBM was former International Trade and Industries Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Jeli member of parliament. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
