Is Dr Mahathir provoking action against himself, asks Annuar Musa

Umno Supreme Council member Tan Sri Annuar Musa today warned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his recent allegedly seditious blog posting, saying that the former Malaysian premier deliberately wanted the authorities to act against him to garner sympathy. Annuar said anyone who had basic knowledge of Malaysian laws would know that Mahathir’s blog post on February 3 titled ‘AG to AG’ was seditious in nature. "Having known him for quite a long time, I don't really know what his real intentions are in writing such a posting,” "It could be that he, being a shrewd political strategist that he is, was merely trying to garner sympathy from the public and to mobilise support for his cause to get the prime minister removed by inciting the authority to act against him,” Annuar wrote in a Facebook post yesterday. Annuar said Mahathir must have known that words he used in the blog post were seditious as the government led by the former prime minister for more than 20 years had frequently charged people under the Sedition Act. "But it could also be that Dr Mahathir thinks, being a former prime minister and a former Umno president, may make him immune from the power of law, hence his boldness in going against the law in his attempt to try to get the prime minister removed.” He said Mahathir also had insulted the Yang diPertuan Agong in his argument that “the current AG was appointed by the PM through false representation made to the King”. "This claim is indeed an insult to the King, making it appear as if the King is a foolhardy person who can be easily deceived by the people," "And for his ruining of the Malaysian judicial and legal system during his time, Tun Dr Mahathir now has no moral standing whatsoever to preach or complain about it,” he said. "If there's any fault with the current system, he should blame himself for it as it was he who made and perpetuated it.” He said authorities would have to act against Mahathir if there were police reports lodged against him to avoid being perceived as being selective.– February 7, 2016.
