MANILA – When President Rodrigo Duterte Attended Palarong Pambansa 2017 in Antique, Aklan on Sunday, he explained to the youth the reason why he wants to bring back the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) in college.

“Kasi ‘yung ROTC ‘yon ‘yung may training, reserve officers nga eh. Because if there is really violence, anarchy, ang maka-alam niyan, ang marunong mag-handle ng M16, M14 or mortar, ‘yung mga ROTC,” Pres. Duterte said. (There are trainings in ROTC. That’s why its called ‘reserve officers.’ Because if there is really violence, anarchy, those who would know how to handle M16, M14 or mortar are those who underwent ROTC.)

President Duterte also announced there is a proposed bill being crafted that allows for the implementation of the ROTC program.

“Then I can be assured that the next generation or ngayon at least marunong kayong humawak ng baril, marunong kayong mag-depensa ng bayan ninyo,” Pres. Duterte added. (Then I can be assured that the next generation or the present one, at least they would know how to use firearms. You know how to defend your country.)

The chief executive also promised that under his administration, the government will allot the largest fund for education.

The president believes education can bring prosperity in the future.

“I have big investments for you since you will be the fathers and mothers in the future. So we are trying to build competitiveness, fairness, values, and the sense of goodwill among you, the youth,” Pres. Duterte stated.  —  Rosalie Coz | UNTV News & Rescue
