Better known for her role on Basketball Wives LA, actress Draya Michele is also a successful model and fashion designer who recently partnered with PacSun for the release of an all-new swimsuit line from her brand, Mint Swim. But she knows a thing or two about designer bags, too. See for yourself as she goes on an extravagant shopping spree at What Goes Around Comes Around in Beverly Hills and scores a slam dunk with a very special Chanel bag.
Eye-catching color is a top priority for Michele when it comes to handbags. Like a moth to a flame, she’s immediately drawn to colors that pop.
“This purple, magenta [bag] down here,” says Michele as she points at a bright purple $5,250 Chanel Quilted Suede Binocular Bag. Michele greets the vibrant bag with a flirtatious,“Hi, how you doin’?”
Not one to shy away from shiny objects, Michele next gravitates towards a Chanel Metallic Gold Half Flap Micro with a $3,500 price point.
“Automatically, my eyes go right to the gold,” Michele says of the metallic purse. “That is a me bag. It’s a great nighttime bag for just your cards, your lip gloss, you don’t need to put anything in there,” she says.
Texture is another draw for Michele when it comes to designer bags, as proven by her interest in a Chanel Green Quilted Mini Suede Handbag for $5,150. But Michele has some words of warning when it comes to the bag’s soft, suede material.
“I love this little bag right here. It’s suede, so you have to be careful with it, OK? Because anything you do, it will show on this bag,” Michele warns. “If you had a rough night, it’s gonna show on this bag. If you were dancing and you got sweaty and you rubbed up against somebody with new jeans on, it’s gonna show on this bag,” she explains.
As a final word of advice, Michele continues, “Also, people with pens in their hands are your worst nightmare for purses. Just stay away from them. If anyone comes close to you with a pen, you just never know how they’re gonna brush against you. Just say, ‘Stay back, it’s a weapon.’”
But just because she works in fashion doesn’t mean Michele is comfortable around any and all designer bags. When it comes to a $5,750 Chanel Black Caviar Supermodel, Michele approaches with caution.
“This [bag], it’s so intimidating,” says Michele. “This is very strong. I’m intimidated. I see it. It’s almost like you can’t look, but you’re scared to touch. [You] don’t wanna mess anything up. That’s the Chanel effect.”
But one thing Michele isn’t shy about when it comes to bags, is flouting convention. Gazing at a sheer $1,950 Louis Vuitton Monogram Transparent Clutch, Michele remarks, “This is probably some sort of cosmetic bag, [but] I would carry it as a purse. You don’t have to follow the rules.”
At the end of the spree, Michele walks away with a bright yellow Chanel Quilted Lambskin Classic Square Flap Mini for $6,255. Of her purchase, Michele remarks, “See guys, smaller doesn’t always mean cheaper. Smaller means better and harder to make. Remember that.”
