Finally, the Senate will hear the testimony of alleged pork barrel scam operator Janet Lim Napoles after Senate President Franklin Drilon and Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman TG Guingona signed the subpoena for businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, Monday.

Napoles will appear before the Senate on November 7, Thursday at 10 in the morning for the scheduled Blue Hearing Committee on the scam.

Other whistleblowers like Benhur Luy have also been summoned to appear at the Senate hearing.

Napoles has been tagged by whistleblowers as the mastermind of the pork barrel scam, wherein her bogus non-government organizations (NGO) got pork from some lawmakers.

The subpoena was addressed to Napoles care of Dir. Carmelo Valmoria, the PNP-SAF commander in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa Laguna where she is currently detained.

Guingona said the subpoena will be delivered on Monday. He added that he saw no reason why the Makati Regional Trial Court, which is hearing the illegal detention case against Napoles, will not allow her to appear before the Senate.

Any security concern should also be addressed by the police, Guingona said.

“If the court disallows, it should have a very very good reason to do so. Because right now I cannot think of any reason why the court will not allow Janet Lim Napoles to come to the senate,” Guingona said in a phone interview with DZMM.

Napoles is facing plunder charges, along with some lawmakers and ex-government officals, in relation to the multi-billion scam.

Drilon earlier decided to sign the subpoena after a Senate caucus on October 16.  He previously refused to sign the subpoena for Napoles, saying he would seek the opinion of the Ombudsman, who later said it was not a good time to summon Napoles to the Senate.

This move was criticized by some of his colleagues, especially Guingona who requested the subpoena. He expressed disappointment over Drilon’s stand on Napoles’ subpoena saying she has evaded Senate inquiry for the third time.
