PENAMPANG: A driver who severely injured four people in a car crash along Jalan Sapulut-Tambunan-Donggongon in Kampung Babagon here yesterday was believed to be intoxicated.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the man, in his 20s, lost control of his Proton Saga.

“He was driving from Inanam to Kibunut when he lost control of his vehicle, skidded into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with a van which was carrying four passengers.

“The van spun and hit another car behind it,” he said when contacted today.

Mohd Haris said the three drivers escaped with minor injuries but the four van passengers, including two children aged five and 11, were seriously injured and had been sent to the hospital for treatment.

“The Proton Saga driver was also brought to the hospital for a blood test and the result showed that he was under the influence of alcohol,” he added.
