Drugs in teabags found in Bras Basah hotel room, CNB says 'high' tea cancelled
SINGAPORE — Suspected illegal drugs hidden in tampered milk tea sachets were seized in a hotel room around Bras Basah Road, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Wednesday (11 May).
The sachets were among a haul of over 4kg of such drugs found by CNB during a recent raid.
On Monday, CNB officers raided the hotel room and arrested a 31-year-old Singaporean man in the bathroom, where he allegedly disposed of some illicit drugs into the toilet bowl. Packets of cannabis and other drugs were recovered from the toilet bowl, cistern and drainage, as well as in other parts of the hotel room.
In all, about 65g of ‘Ice’, 2.16kg of cannabis, 5g of ketamine, 360g of ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, multiple LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps, 1.31kg of Erimin-5 tablets and 700g of tampered sachets of beverage mix believed to contain controlled drugs were seized.
In a Facebook post, CNB announced, "Cannabis found dumped in toilet bowl, ‘high’ tea cancelled."
Investigations into the drug activities of the suspect are ongoing.
“It is not surprising that drug trafficking syndicates have continued to exploit various novel drug concealment methods to evade CNB’s persistent enforcement actions. In this operation, we saw how syndicates have tampered milk tea sachets to hide their drugs,” said CNB Superintendent Aaron Tang, Director of Intelligence Division.
A person who is convicted of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
