Dua Lipa Teases Her Next Era by Announcing the New Single 'Houdini' with a Sultry Optical Illusion
The pop star will release new music on Nov. 9
Fans are about to “dance the night away” to new Dua Lipa music.
On Wednesday, the pop star, 28, officially announced her new single, “Houdini.” The song will drop on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. ET.
The Grammy winner confirmed the new release was on the way with a post on Instagram of the single artwork. The sultry cover art features the star with her recently debuted auburn hair as she licks her own reflection in a mirror.

In the caption, she shared the upcoming release date and gave a nod to the song’s namesake, magician Harry Houdini, by including an emoji of handcuffs in reference to one of his most famous stunts.
Lipa has pulled a few stunts herself in the lead up to the announcement. The news of “Houdini” comes after the “Don’t Start Now” singer wiped her Instagram and TikTok and changed her profile picture on Instagram to a new photo of herself and to a kaleidoscopic image on TikTok, X (formerly known as Twitter) and streaming platforms.
Over the past few weeks, the hitmaker has also been posting and quickly deleting cryptic teasers — the clips themselves being illusions featuring mirrored images and close ups of the “Levitating” singer, as well as footage of her toying with a key on her tongue.

Although the teasers were archived on Instagram, they remain on her X profile, beginning with a photo of herself that was posted on Oct. 12, debuting her new auburn look, with “miss me?” in the caption.
The posts that followed include the text, “catch me or I go…,” “I’m not here for long” and the emojis “🔑✨ ,” inviting fans to sign up for updates on her website.
Fans are speculating “Houdini” launches Lipa’s next album era. The star last released a full-length album in 2020 with the acclaimed, Grammy-winning record Future Nostalgia, featuring some of her biggest songs to date like “Levitating,” “Don’t Stop Now” and “Break My Heart.”

Although it’s been three years since the pop star released an LP, she’s dropped several popular singles since then. Most recently, the recording artist contributed “Dance the Night,” along with producer Mark Ronson, to the Barbie soundtrack.
Lipa has also shared a handful of collaborations: her 2022 team-up with Megan Thee Stallion, “Sweetest Pie,” and her feature on Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, “Potion,” which also includes Young Thug.
