The Dutch football Federation (KNVB) unveiled their plans to train referees in the use of video technology from September, with the hope of putting an unprecedented practice into place within two years, they announced Tuesday. "The KNVB believes that video assistance represents the future for football," the federation told AFP. "We are hoping to develop this technology." The video technology planned by the Dutch is set to help with match-changing decisions such as penalties or red cards. The KNVB have already submitted a request to world governing body FIFA in regards to the tests but had that rejected, according to Dutch media. FIFA do not currently allow refereeing by video but the Dutch remain undeterred. "By training video referees now, we will be ready when FIFA give the green light," the federation added.
