Dutchman finishes Vendee Globe yachting race -- 42 days after winner

Dutch sailor Pieter Heerema finished the gruelling Vendee Globe round the world race on Thursday, 42 days after the winner crossed the line.

Heerema, on No Way Back, was the 17th and penultimate finisher after 116 days at sea.

French sailor Armel Le Cléac'h, on board Banque Populaire VIII, claimed victory on January 19 in a time of 74 days 3 hours 35.46 minutes.

Only Sebastien Destremau of France remains at sea and he is expected to reach dry land between March 6 and March 8.
