CEBU CITY, Philippines — The construction for one of the largest infrastructure projects under the Duterte administration is about to begin.
President Rordrigo Duterte led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
It is a more than 8-kilometer bridge that will link Cordova and Cebu City.
The bridge will help ease traffic woes in two large bridges namely the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue Bridge.
This will also serve as an alternative route going to Mactan Cebu International Airport.
The CCLEX, which costs over P27-billion, is a joint venture of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, and the local government of Cebu and of the municipality of Cordova.
“Nalipay ko’g daku (I am really happy) actually because ang syudad nga (the city is) really suffering now from lack of mobility. Dili lang kay mobility (Not only mobility), it’s really the total absence of the infrastructure,” said President Duterte.
Meanwhile, the President made mention once again of having a mass transport system as a solution to the increasing volume of vehicles on the major roads not only in Metro Manila but also in other major provinces.
So the best to remedy the situation is to go to a mass transport system. Basta mudako na ang syudad, ipagbawal mo na, di na nimu pasudlun ang mga private cars (When the city grows bigger, you should ban, do not let private cars in); dili tanang panahon (not all the time). So kadtung naay mga kotse (those who have cars) there will be a time you will be deprived of enjoying the luxury of riding a car especially Manila, Cebu and Davao,” he said.
After the groundbreaking ceremony, the President immediately headed to Waterfront Mactan Airport Hotel And Casino to attend the induction of the newly elected officers of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. — Gladys Toabi | UNTV News and Rescue
