President Rodrigo Duterte
MANILA, Philippines — Employees under the Office of the President are in for a truly merry holiday as President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday night (December 3) that each staff shall receive a P50,000 holiday bonus.
The Chief Executive said he initially offered P40,000, but decided to increase it after his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, teased him about it.
“Sabi in Inday [Sara], ‘Bakit naman kayo sa Mayila, national capital, 40K? Ang aking bigay doon sa Davao, 50K (Inday Sara said, “How come in Manila, which is the national capital, only offers P40,000? In Davao I gave them P50,000 ),” the president quoted her daughter as saying.
“So hindi tayo magpahuli sa Davao (So, we will not fall behind Davao),” Duterte added amid cheers from the staff.
“Sabi ko kay Lina Apostol, ‘Wala akong pakialam. Magnakaw ka, mang-hiram, dispalkuhin mo ‘yang pera, basta gawain mong 50’ (I told Lina Apostol, “I don’t care whether you have to steal or borrow the money, as long as you raise the P50,000).” So, it’s gonna be 50,” the President said to the excited crowd. — UNTV News & Rescue
