This Dystopian Drama Is The Top Movie On Netflix Right Now

“Uglies” is currently the most popular movie on Netflix, according to the platform’s public ranking system.

The sci-fi drama is an adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 dystopian young adult novel about a teenage girl living in a post-apocalyptic society in which cosmetic surgery is mandatory. Joey King stars alongside Chase Stokes, Laverne Cox, Keith Powers and Brianne Tju.

“Uglies” premiered on Sept. 13 to mostly negative reviews, and it is unclear if the subsequent novels in the series will be adapted into sequels.

Another dystopian movie is trending on Max. The 2024 thriller “Civil War” is the most popular movie on the platform at the moment.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, the film revolves around a group of war journalists trying to get from New York City to Washington, D.C. amid a rebel uprising against a dictatorial U.S. federal government. The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Sonoya Mizuno.

“Boy Kills World”

Yet another dystopian film is on Hulu’s current list of most popular movies on the platform.

“Boy Kills World” is an action comedy starring Bill Skarsgård as a young man on a quest for vengeance against those who killed his family. The cast also features Michelle Dockery, Jessica Rothe, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley and Famke Janssen.

“The Fall Guy”

“The Fall Guy” is currently trending on Peacock. Loosely based on a 1980s TV show, the action comedy follows a stunt double who gets wrapped up in a criminal conspiracy while working on a film.

“The Fall Guy,” which was released in theaters on May 3, stars Emily Blunt, Ryan Gosling, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu and Winston Duke.

“If”

A family-friendly movie by Blunt’s husband John Krasinski is trending on Paramount+.

Written and directed by Krasinski, “IF” is a fantasy film about a young girl who develops the ability to see people’s childhood imaginary friends that they left behind as they grew up. The cast includes Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell.
