EastEnders' Alfie Moon gets bad news over cancer diagnosis
EastEnders spoilers follow.
Alfie Moon has received some bad news over his cancer diagnosis in EastEnders.
The popular character has been away from Walford for a few months while privately recovering from prostate cancer, as he's hid the truth from ex-wife Kat and their children.
Thus far, Phil Mitchell knows the truth about Alfie's diagnosis but has agreed to keep his secret given his own father's tragic death from cancer. Alfie has also confided in close friend Linda Carter.
In Monday's episode, Linda offered to accompany Alfie to the hospital for his latest test results where he received some disappointing news.
Alfie was told by his doctor that his recent cancer surgery wasn't entirely successful, meaning he will need to consider additional treatment options.
He was shell-shocked when he returned to the Square, only for Kat to tear a strip off him for not walking her down the aisle at her wedding.
"You're a no-good flake who does disappearing acts whenever it suits him," Kat angrily said.
Alfie finally plucked up the courage to tell Kat the truth, admitting to her: "I've got cancer."
Kat remained upset that her former spouse hadn't been honest about what he was facing, though Alfie promised that he is being honest now.
"Did Phil know?" Kat asked him, only for Alfie to lie and tell her: "No."
Kat pulled Alfie in for a big hug, unaware that Phil was none-too-pleased as he watched them from a few metres away.
When Alfie's cancer storyline started earlier this year, Shane Richie revealed that his character's plight hit close to home as one of his friends had a similar diagnosis.
"EastEnders has a track record. They did it with Lola with the brain tumour," he noted. "And I think the strength of the BBC, and certainly EastEnders, when they take on board subjects like this, they really do their homework."
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
