It has been announced that Walford’s favourite postie, Masood Ahmed, will be returning to EastEnders later this year, and he’ll be returning to Albert Square with some new family members in tow.
The popular character, played by Nitin Ganatra, was last seen heading to Pakistan to find his ex-wife Zainab in November last year, and in a shock twist he will not be coming home with the pair’s young son, Kamil.
An insider told The Sun: “Masood has been involved in numerous top storylines since he joined EastEnders and he has unfinished business on the Square.
“The extended family who are joining him have yet to be cast but bosses certainly want Masood to be one of the soap’s central characters once again.
“He hasn’t been away long but a lot has happened in his absence.”
As well as his fractured relationship with Zainab, played by Nina Wadia, Masood has been involved in a series of big plots during his time on the square, including his son Syed coming out as gay, his daughter Shabnam’s stillbirth, and he also proved himself as quite the ladies man, enjoying romances with Jane Beale, Carmel Kazemi, Carol Jackson, and Belinda Slater.
Speaking about his grand return to the BBC One soap, Nitin shared: “When I was told Masood still has much to give to the show and is missed by the audience, it was hard to refuse.
“It is with great pride that I will grow my Masood goatee once again to help create and base an extended family around him.”
The Masood family first joined EastEnders in 2007, with Nina and Nitin winning the best on-screen partnership award at the British Soap Awards in 2009.
