EastEnders spoilers follow.
The pair have been contemplating the idea of having a baby together in recent weeks, a matter complicated by Reiss’ own issues with infertility.
The couple then looked to the option of IVF, but Sonia’s status as a mother already meant that the waiting list was extended, leaving Reiss to suggest a private clinic.
Sonia expressed her unease at being able to afford such treatment, but Reiss assured her that he could finance their journey with money left over from his mother’s will.
Unbeknownst to Sonia, the money actually came from his wife’s bank account; Reiss had previously said that his wife was in a coma and required extensive medical care.
With the money now secured, next week’s scenes will see the couple begin their IVF journey, with the duo heading to their first appointment.
As they begin to talk about the specifics, Reiss feels intimidated by the situation, and is later upset when he becomes the talk of the town in Walford.
Noticing that Reiss is feeling down, Sonia reassures him and tells him he will be a wonderful father. Will that be enough to ease Reiss’ worries?
Elsewhere on EastEnders next week, Ben Mitchell will continue to struggle with his mental health as daughter Lexi prepares for her first day of secondary school.
Ben has been suffering from an eating disorder in recent weeks, stemming from his traumatic incident with Lewis Butler, but made a positive step by attending a therapy session with Kat.
Though Callum notices that his husband is still harbouring anxieties, he encourages him to take interest in Lexi and her enthusiasm for school; will this lead to an overall improvement in Ben’s health?...
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
