Not because I want to endorse you being a Cathy-esque stereotype who becomes a human pile of tears at the sight of ice cream and chocolate, but you should know that Romper has decreed an ice cream capable of boosting your breast milk supply - and it's Ben & Jerry's new Oat of This Swirled. Cue the tears of joy and bust out the spoon, right!?

Well...not so fast. The reason this ice cream is allegedly good for your breast milk supply is because it has oats. Oats have galactagogues, Romper says, and according to the American Pregnancy Association, galactagogues can boost your breast milk supply.

But let me reiterate: Those galactagogues are coming from, should you have missed it before, the oats. Oats, what your grandma ate, and the same shit you can get from..steel cut oatmeal.

A cursory look at Ben & Jerry's website says that the ice cream does contain oats in the ingredients list - which is good. But the flavor description is "oatmeal cinnamon cookie swirls," not "oatmeal in ice cream." Think about it this way: You probably would not eat oatmeal cookies in lieu of actual, steel cut oatmeal, so assuming you're getting the same health benefits in ice cream form is...probably misinformed. Also worth noting: A serving of the ice cream itself contains 50% of your daily recommended saturated fat intake. So, while oats are good for you (yay!), you're also consuming some not-so-great stuff, too.

Proclaiming that an ice cream that contains oats will boost your breast milk supply – without even saying how much of it you'd actually need to eat in order to get the health benefit of the oats - is sort of like saying, "well, this study says wine is good for my brain, so pardon me while I pretend this White Zin is juice and that I'm on a juice cleanse weeeeeeee!"

While it's very optimistic to ransack your grocery store looking for anything with oats for the sake of your baby, you should probably skip the ice cream aisle and head straight to the actual oats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
