Eddie Redmayne, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Chris O’Dowd, Adam Deacon: Vote For Your BAFTA Orange Rising Star!

The wait is over. Grazia can now confirm the breakout stars shortlisted for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star award. The long list saw the likes of Felicity Jones (our official new style and beauty crush – hello new face of Dolce & Gabbana) and Jennifer Lawrence (who we can’t wait to see brunette in the Hunger Games) but it seems that the boys are back in town this year as the five shortlisted actors are all men. Not that we’re complaining, Hollywood can never have too many heartthrobs. Drum roll please...

Eddie Redmayne Marilyn Monroe.jpg

Eddie Redmayne, 30

You’ve seen him on the Burberry billboards and he wowed us on the big screen as Colin Clark in My Week With Marilyn. You’ll see him next acting his socks off in BBC’s adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong on January 22, alongside the likes of Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman in Tom Hooper’s film adaptation of Les Misérables in December and opposite Blake Lively in dramedy Hick sometime this year. Watch this space…

Grazia Daily was lucky enough to grab a five minute chat with Eddie to talk Emma Watson, Michelle Williams and being part of the latest Brit Pack...

Grazia Daily: Well done for getting up this morning!
Eddie Redmayne: Do you know what, I’m doing a play at the moment and it’s quite hard core so I had to set like four alarms this morning to make sure! I’m playing Richard II at the moment, the less famous one! [laughs]

Grazia Daily: What’s it like working with such strong women like Emma Watson, Michelle and Anne Hathaway?
Eddie Redmayne: Do you know what, one of the great things about Marilyn was working with not only actors of the older generation but also working with actors, friends of mine and it becomes quite a small world, particularly in the film industry so Dominic Cooper was an old mate, and working with women like Emma who absolutely – manages to deal with the extraordinary sort of amount that’s going on in her life and yet still studying and managing to do everything at the same time committing entirely to the work when we’re doing the work and Michelle as well, I’m always dumbfounded at how some women work with a family, seeing mums being mums while also working, is amazing.

Grazia Daily: What are your thoughts on the Oscar race between Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams?
Eddie Redmayne: Well you know where my loyalties are going to lie! I haven’t seen The Iron Lady yet so I can’t comment on that but I think Michelle is formidable? She is one of the most mellow people, she’s been nominated so so many times before but I really think that she’s a special woman and a special actress and I would love her to win but of course, I’m deeply and completely biased!

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth, 28

You may recognise the Melbourne-born actor from his days as Kim in Home & Away (he’s the one who never had his shirt on, swoon!) and as George Kirk in his short but pivotal role in Star Trek. More likely though, you’ll recognise him from his role opposite Nathalie Portman and fellow shortlister Tom Hiddleston in last year’s Thor. He’ll be picking up his magic hammer again as Thor in comic-book frenzy The Avengers in April but we’re most excited about seeing him as Huntsman hero opposite Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman this June.

Grazia Daily was lucky enough to grab a five minute chat with Tom to talk War Horse, Prince William and Kate Middleton...

Grazia Daily: You went to Eton around the same time as Prince William did, did you two know each other well?
Tom Hiddleston: I didn’t know him very well, it’s quite a big school but we did know each other.

Grazia Daily: What was it like having the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at your premiere?
Tom Hiddleston: It was amazing, they both were so kind and loved it. Prince William is a keen horseman himself so he was asking if I enjoyed riding and if I’d ridden before, I said that I’d ridden before but badly! But now I was a better rider.

Grazia Daily: Was it true that Kate Middleton cried throughout the screening?
Tom Hiddleston: I couldn’t confirm or deny that but Steven Spielberg told me that his wife Kate Capshaw Passed Kate a tissue sometime towards the end and Kate was very sweet, she said to me at the reception how much she loved it and how much she loved my character, Captain Nicholls who is very kind.

Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston, 30

Fans of the UK version Wallander will know Hiddleston as Magnus Martinsson, and comic-book junkies will recognise him as Thor’s brother, Loki. We personally loved him as a dapper F. Scott Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris and as Captain Nicholls in War Horse. Expect to see Hiddleston tackling period drama as Prince Hal and later Henry V in BBC’s TV movie Henry IV during their Shakespeare season later this year and rocking the slicked-back hair again as Loki in The Avengers.

Chris O’Dowd

Chris O’Dowd, 32

We all sort of fell in love with Roy from The IT crowd after seeing him as Officer Nathan Rhodes in Bridesmaids and this December, we’ll see the funnyman in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 this December, the long-awaited spin-off of 2007’s Knocked Up which will delve into the lives of Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann). O’Dowd is also currently filming Moone Boy, a comedy for Sky 1 written by and starring the actor this summer.

Adam Deacon

Adam Deacon, 28

You may have seen the Hackney-born actor/rapper as Jay in gang-drama Kidulthood and Adulthood and showing off his directing/writing debut in lighter comedy Anuvahood. And all this before hitting 30! Expect to see him showing off his screams in abandoned London horror movie Comedown later this year and in 80’s garb in comedy Outside Bet, set against the dramatic media evolution of the era out in April.
