KEMAMAN: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Saturday nabbed eight crew members of two Thai-registered fishing vessels off Kuala Kemaman over suspicion of illegal possession and dealing of subsidised diesel.

The team seized RM250,000 worth of fuel from the crew members, from Thailand and Cambodia.

Kemaman MMEA director Mohd Marmizi Md Noor said a patrol vessel spotted the two boats at about 149 nautical miles from Tanjung Mat Amin around 8.30am.

"Our investigation showed that all the crews did not possess any travel documents or valid permit to carry diesel in their vessels," he said today.

Tarmizi said the case is being investigated under the Control Supply Act 1961 and the Merchant Shipping Act 1952.

"All the detainees, aged between 20 and 45, will be referred to the Immigration Department for further investigation." he added.
