PEKAN: An 83-year-old stroke patient's dream of meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak came true today when the latter dropped by his house at Kampung Telok, here.
Zainudin Sulong, who has been bedridden for almost five years, had been hoping to meet Najib during his trip here, but realised that the Prime Minister has a tight schedule as he travels constantly for official events.
But when Najib showed up by his bedside, tears rolled down Zainudin’s cheeks, and the father-of-eleven said he was grateful that the Prime Minister had made time just to see him during his whirlwind visit to Pekan and Kuantan today.
"I am happy and touched by the Prime Minister's concern. My wife informed me about the visit a few days ago, and I have been eagerly waiting for the day to come," he said.
Zainudin's wife, Noriah Mohamed, said her husband, who had served as the Kampung Telok Umno branch secretary in the 1960s, had met Tun Abdul Razak Hussein during his tenure as the second prime minister, but had never met Najib.
"When he sees the Prime Minister on television, he gets excited remembering the days when he was an active party member, alongside Tun Razak," she said.
Najib, who is also the Pekan Member of Parliament, handed a personal contribution to Zainudin.
